The University of Leeds, in collaboration with Techtran Group Limited has today announced the formation of a new company – Tracsis plc - to commercialise scheduling and optimisation software that has been in development with the school of computing for several years.
The software, called TRACS II (Transport Automated Crew Scheduling), is already used by over 30 bus and train companies throughout the UK and is the culmination of over 100 man years of research with the original concept being developed for British Rail back in the early 1990s. The company be led initially by a management team consisting of the founding academics and professionals from Techtran Group.
Commenting on the deal John McArthur from Techtran said, “The TRACS software is already generally accepted as an industry standard within the UK bus and rail markets in terms of delivering unparalleled optimisation to resource management problems. The formation of Tracsis is testament to the calibre of research that goes on at the University of Leeds and allows us to provide a professional front to the clients and markets we aim to serve. We remain extremely positive about our product, our strategy and our team and see no reason why Tracsis should not be a major provider in optimisation software in the coming years”.
